The Blaklader XWARM thermal underwear is a baselayer built for anyone who works outdoors in extreme cold. It's aimed at tradespeople, gardeners, drivers, electricians, mechanics, warehouse workers and fishermen who need dependable warmth during stationary outdoor work without breaking a sweat. Rated for temperatures from -20°C to -35°C, this is clearly designed for demanding daily use in harsh conditions rather than occasional outdoor leisure.
What sets the feel of this garment apart is its two-layer construction. The inner layer is a channel-knit polypropylene with a towelling texture that wicks moisture away from the skin, while the outer layer of merino wool absorbs and regulates that moisture. The result is dry skin even during long shifts, combined with the natural insulating properties of wool. Made from 70% merino wool and 30% polypropylene in a rib knit at 275 g/m², the fabric feels substantial without being bulky. An elastic waistband keeps it securely in place, and cuffed leg openings stop it riding up under work trousers. Washing is gentle: 40°C with wool detergent, no bleach, no dry cleaning, no ironing and no tumble drying, which keeps the wool fibres performing wash after wash.
A label placed on the outside avoids skin irritation, a small detail that matters over long days of wear. Combined with its strong thermal performance, the XWARM underwear is particularly suited to stationary work in freezing conditions, such as winter construction sites, fishing operations or outdoor maintenance jobs where movement alone isn't enough to stay warm.
