These multi-norm work trousers from Blaklader are designed for electricians, tradespeople and service technicians who face more than one hazard on the job. They combine high-visibility protection, flame resistance and arc flash protection in a single metal-free garment, replacing several specialist trousers with one well thought-out solution that still offers plenty of pockets for tools, phone and folding rule.
The fabric is an inherently flame-resistant blend of modacrylic, cotton, FR polyamide and aramid with an antistatic component, woven as a durable 260 g/m² ripstop material. In practice this means a soft, supple feel despite the heavy-duty protection, plus a water- and dirt-repellent surface that keeps the trousers easier to maintain during daily wear. The front is lined for extra protection in that area, while the rest of the garment stays unlined for better comfort. Plastic buttons and a plastic zip keep the whole trousers metal-free, so no metal parts compromise the electrical protection.
The trousers carry certification against several standards, each covering a different type of hazard: EN ISO 20471 class 1 provides visibility protection at a moderate level, EN ISO 11612 protects against heat and flame, EN ISO 11611 covers welding hazards, EN 13034 gives limited protection against liquid chemical splashes, and EN 1149-5 addresses antistatic properties. The stand-out feature is arc flash protection to EN 61482-2: the unlined areas meet class APC 1, while the lined front sections reach the higher APC 2 rating - precisely where the highest exposure typically occurs.
This makes the trousers particularly suited to electricians and electrical technicians working in low- and medium-voltage environments, as well as service engineers and tradespeople who also need flame and hi-vis protection. Reinforced knee pad pockets, a rule pocket with knife holder and a detachable ID card pocket add practical value for daily use on site and in service work.
